Who we are

Jodie Smiley, Executive Director

Welcome!

I want to thank you for taking the time to stop by our website. We depend on people like you who are interested in caring for others. Paxton Ministries is a community of homes, serving people with social, mental, or emotional needs. We provide help and housing for men and women struggling with mental illness, intellectual disabilities, and poverty – people who require support with daily living. We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, and we recently celebrated 30 years in ministry!

Whether you are looking for a place for you or a family member to live, would like to volunteer and help others in a meaningful way, or wish to give where your resources will have a real impact, we hope that you find a place with us.

OUR MISSION
Paxton Ministries is a Christian, non-profit community of homes serving adults who may be challenged with social, mental, or emotional needs.

We minister to the whole person, regardless of one’s ability to pay, and help with the development of life skills and resources to live as independently as possible.

Paxton Ministries offers a supportive, family-like environment where love and compassion are a way of life—where dignity and self-worth are recognized in every individual.

OUR VALUES

1. We minister in the name of Christ.
This is God’s ministry; we are partners in God’s work. We depend on God for daily strength, wisdom, and guidance.

Practical Applications:

  • All board and staff members are motivated by a desire to serve Jesus Christ.
  • We are governed by an interdenominational Board of Trustees.
  • The staff devotes regular, scheduled time each week in worship, scripture, and prayer.
  • Every staff member is Christ’s ambassador regardless of position and is expected to develop healthy, caring relationships with our residents.
  • Bible studies, Sunday morning services, and Christian fellowship are a regular part of our community.
  • As Christian professionals, the love and message of Christ informs our actions, words and attitudes.
    =
2.
We serve adults with minimal resources and/or disabilities.

God has called us to care for adults with minimal resources and/or disabilities.

Practical Applications:

  • We provide affordable, long-term housing and support to adults with disabilities.
  • We accept residents regardless of their ability to pay.
  • We partner with individuals, churches, businesses, and foundations that support our work through prayer, financial gifts and volunteer help.
  • We collaborate with existing social and government agencies in an effort to provide the best possible care.
  • We practice careful stewardship of our resources so that we can continue to care for people with limited incomes.
    =
3.
We value the person.

We believe that all people are created by God and should be cared for with excellence, dignity and respect.

Practical Applications:

  • Support, accountability, and choice are offered compassionately to help people live as independently as they are able and to encourage a journey of recovery.
  • Each resident has a right to fully participate in a plan for their care that meets their unique needs.
We work to provide the highest quality care that is within our means.
  • Residents are encouraged to creatively nurture their God-given ability and talents in ways that mutually benefit themselves and others.
  • Every member of our ministry, whether resident, staff or volunteer, is on a road to healing and in need of God’s love and grace.
    =
4.
We value community.

We are committed to walk life’s journey together.

Practical Applications:

  • We work hard to maintain clean, safe and inviting homes that are filled with love and laughter.
  • As we walk through life together, deeper levels of trust, friendship, love, and belonging occur.
  • Worship, fun, celebration, and recreation are a part of our life together.
  • Live-in staff members and their families help to create family-like homes.
  • Residents, staff, volunteers and guests often eat meals together.
    =
5.
We work together.

Shared responsibility develops a high sense of ownership and commitment.

Practical Applications:

  • A spirit of service, heart for ministry, desire for community, and love for others are vital for effective service at Paxton Ministries.
While each staff member has a primary job responsibility, every staff member shares in community tasks, such as personal care support, meal serving and cleanup, evening and weekend duties, and hosting activities.
