Throughout our history, Paxton Ministries has strived to help our residents to achieve as much independence as possible. At our independent living apartments on Hudson Street, only a short walk from our main facility on Paxton Street, we provide five mental health consumers with comfortable and affordable housing in one- and two-bedroom apartments.

Residents who live in these apartments must be able to cook for themselves, manage their own medication, and possess the necessary support network to help them navigate the challenges of living independently. Staff in Paxton’s Community Living Programs department are available to help connect residents with community resources and to provide regular wellness checks, as well as crisis management services when needed. Other individualized services—such as assistance with budgeting or medication monitoring—are also available for residents who require a higher level of support.

In addition to obtaining the skills and supports necessary to live on their own, residents who live in our Hudson Street apartments are expected to engage in some form of meaningful activity, such as full- or part-time employment, educational pursuits, or volunteer work.

Due to the size and nature of Paxton’s Community Living Programs, we keep no “waiting list” for the Hudson Street Apartments or Boas Street Lodge. Instead, qualified applicants are added to an “interest list” and invited to complete the final stages of the application process only when an opening is imminent.
