Position Title: Voluntary Services Maintenance Assistant
Responsible to: Maintenance Manager

Summary of Position
1. Coordinate late afternoon and evening (2nd shift) resident support coverage.
2. Manage all medication-related tasks when on-duty.
3. Develop rapport with all residents.
4. Administer medication.

Principal Duties
1. Coordinate all resident care tasks from 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM in conjunction with other 2nd shift and evening duty staff. Serve as the in-charge staff member during
these hours if you are the senior second shift staff on duty.
2. Develop rapport and communicate regularly, in both formal and informal settings, with all residents in order to effectively assess needs and provide care.
3. Assure the proper electronic and paper documentation for, and storage of all medications delivered from the pharmacy while on duty.
4. Order necessary medications and manage the resolution of medication problems while on duty, maintaining regular communication with the pharmacy and
Medication Coordinator.
5. Maintain current medication administration certification and administer evening, bedtime, and PRN medications for assigned floor(s).
6. Provide care in a manner that respects residents’ dignity and uses mental health recovery principles to encourage residents to develop their strengths and talents
and set personal goals.
7. Monitor resident activity and document any important resident behavioral notes.
8. Provide crisis management and behavioral interventions as necessary, using a team approach to deal with difficult situations. Write incident reports as necessary.
9. Remain visible and available to residents as much as possible and communicate with other staff.
10. Provide prompts and if necessary, assist residents with personal hygiene including, but not limited to: bathing, oral hygiene, and hair care, dressing, care of clothes
and shaving.
11. Assist with evening meal clean up and other duties.
12. Assist with reviewing and maintaining all required medication documentation.
13. Provide input to the Medication Coordinator on medication-related policies and procedures.
14. Communicate regularly with the Resident Support Manager and attend any bi-weekly Social Service Team meetings. Communicate with medical providers in a
professional manner.
15. Attend shift-change meetings at the beginning and end of the shift, completing shift log and verbally communicating any important resident care needs.
16. Maintain healthy rapport with other staff and volunteers.
17. Participate in other activities as requested.
18. Pray regularly for spiritual, emotional and physical well being of residents and for your own insight and wisdom.

Physical, Spiritual, Social and Emotional Requirements
1) A heart for working with mentally and emotionally challenged adults in a Christian residential care setting.
2) The physical ability to carry out the above duties.
3) A willingness to be flexible and serve in a variety of ways as needed.

Work Schedule
The normal work schedule for this position is as follows, approx. 40 – 46 hrs/week:

  • Day Schedule: Mon. – Fri. for 8 ? hrs (Usually 8 am to 4:30 pm with a 1/2 hr. break)
  • Weekend Duty: Every 4th weekend, approx. 22 hrs of work. A day off prior to and after the weekend are scheduled, plus one personal day a month may be taken.
  • Evening Duty: Up to two evening duties (12 pm to 8:30 pm) are scheduled per month.
  • In addition to above, all staff are encouraged to attend and participate in occasional special community events, i.e. banquets, etc.
  • Any exceptions to this schedule will be noted in an individual’s Voluntary Service Agreement.

1. This position requires a professing Christian with a heart for working with people.
2. Strong rapport with staff and residents is essential.
3. Physical ability to accomplish the tasks associated with this position is essential.
4. The ability to receive direction, instruction and correction with graciousness.
5. The ability to consistently work under specific daily deadlines with a healthy attitude.
6. Fully participate in a Christ-like manner with the religious functions and activities of the organization including leading in meal time prayer, worship services, staff
devotionals, Bible studies and other activities as scheduled or requested.

Specific Job Requirements:

  1. Bachelors Degree in Psychology, Social Work or related field, or experience in a similar Human Service agency.
  2. The successful candidate will possess a heart for working with Mentally and Emotionally Challenged adults in a Christian residential care setting.
  3. The job requires a congenial and professional working relationship with all residents, their families, staff and professionals.
  4. Working at Paxton Ministries requires the following schedule of full-time resident support staff: Approximately 41 hours per week.

*Weekday Schedule: Monday through Friday. Usual shift is 3 PM – 11 PM with a 1/2 hr. break.

*In addition to above required hours all staff are encouraged, but not required to attend and participate in occasional special community events, i.e. Community Meeting, banquets, staff meetings, etc.
