Our volunteers, donors and prayer partners are vital to the on-going success of our work. People like you help ensure that our residents have a loving, supportive place to call home. Not only that, Paxton Ministries is a place where Christians can “get their feet wet" in the work of ministry. We desire to see you find joy in using your gifts here. We encourage you to the plunge and experience God’s presence in a way that only happens when you actively serve others.
Here are some of the ways you can get involved:
Volunteer:
- Weekends
Our greatest need is for volunteers on the weekends when we are minimally staffed. Come for the day or stay the weekend in one our guestrooms. Weekend volunteers assist with a variety of tasks such as meal preparation, dish clean-up, grounds keeping and handy work. Building relationships with our residents and staff is most important. Families are welcome!
- Weekdays
Some people like to help us in our kitchen during an extra busy week. Others like to help paint a room or mow a lawn. Have free time during the week? We’d love to have you.
- Office Volunteers
During the week, we are greatly aided by volunteers who serve for a half or full day as receptionist in our main office. It’s a busy place but a great opportunity to know our residents
- Service Projects
Groups Church groups, Sunday School classes, and civic groups get involved by volunteering for a service project...or by providing a monthly birthday party for all of our residents having a birthday that month. Could you organize a group to get involved in this way?
- Paxton Fest
The last Saturday in September, we hold a fun fall festival at Paxton Street Home. This community event helps to raise money for the ministry and spreads the word about our work. We need people to help us plan and put on a 2 Mile Run, Benefit Auctions, Food Court including Chicken Barbeque, Entertainment, Children's Activities and more
- Full-Time Voluntary Service (VS)
Voluntary Service (VS) at Paxton Ministries is a short-term missions opportunity for adults of all ages. VS workers serve full-time for a month, several months or a year at our home for adults in Harrisburg, Pa. We provide room, board, a monthly stipend, and lots of opportunities to give and grow. A desire to share your gifts and a willingness to learn is all you need.
- Befriend a Resident
Many of our residents do not have active and involved families. Could you touch a life through a special relationship? Some of our residents just need a friend to spend time with, others would love to be invited to someone's house for a picnic or holiday meal, and some others yet could use a spiritual mentor to encourage and pray for them.

- Make a Donation
God has called us to serve low-income and disadvantaged adults. We never turn someone away due to lack of resources. We charge our resident's based on a sliding scale, according to their income. Since our resident's live here regardless of their ability to pay, we have a large revenue gap in our budget between what our residents pay and our actual expenses. We look to concerned individuals, churches, businesses, foundations and other groups to help make up this difference. By giving, you are helping to provide a loving home for an adult in need.
