Life In Community "By fully sharing our lives together, we become a home for all where ownership in our common future is high." Often, we learn the most about ourselves through the eyes of others. I’ve learned more about myself through the conflict, conversation and confrontation within the Paxton Ministries community then I could ever learn on my own. Living in community is a central part of our mission. In each of our three homes, our staff live along side the people that we serve. Therefore, service at Paxton Ministries is more than a job, it is a life-style commitment. By fully sharing our lives together, Paxton Street Home becomes more than just an institution where the staff go home at the end of the day, it becomes a home for all where ownership in our common future is high. In community, we must learn not only to work with others, but to live with others. We can’t simply go home at the end of the day and ignore our problems. Speaking the truth in love must happen regularly. Community does not just happen, we must nurture it to maintain a healthy balance in all our relationships. There are many challenges inherent in living in community, but over the years I have seen the triumphs and joy that await if we are patient and persistent in investing in community. Redemption and blessing are to be found if the path of community is not avoided, but sought out and traversed.
