On Being In The Way
By Dan Frost

"Our success lies in a staff motivated by a desire to serve Jesus in everything they do."

It is said of an Old Testament servant who was sent by his master to find a bride for his son, "And he, being in the way, the Lord led him". What a great place to be—in the way where the Lord can lead you!

At Paxton Ministries, our success lies in a staff motivated by a desire to serve Jesus in everything they do. It has seemed the Lord has both led people out of ministry positions with us...and to ministry positions here. Here are stories of how two of our staff members came to join our community, at the Lord’s leading.

For Cheryl Smith, being led to Paxton Ministries seemed to be a confirmation of longstanding dreams and desires. Although trained in the area of health care, Cheryl had long hoped to be able to work in a psychological field. Somehow she dreamed of being involved in a missions or ministry program, as well. The two desires of her heart had not yet come together...but the first step came with an announcement in her church bulletin at Christ Community Church that we had a need for a social service worker. Her strong desire to help people in need find solutions to their problems seems like a line right out of Paxton Ministries’ job description. Step by step, as the Lord led her, she has joined our staff...and joyfully she accepts the responsibilities He has brought to her.

Who would want to be out of the place where God leads the affairs of their lives? What can compare to being in the place where He leads? For this time in their lives, these two ladies would declare His leadership has been to join the Paxton Street Home staff. And for the staff and residents, we thank God for leading them here.
