Becoming or Placing a Resident

We reciently welcomed our new Dirsctor of Social Services Ida Davis. Please check back later to see a brand new letter from her regarding resident placement. For now we have a partial excerpt from our previous director Wanda Heise.

Paxton Street Home, our primary home, is a Personal Care Home licensed by the state of Pennsylvania. At Paxton Street Home, 85 residents live in their own private room as well as sharing common lounge and living areas. Many of our staff also live in Paxton Street Home contributing to an atmosphere that is much more home-like than most other institutions of our size. As a Personal Care Home we provide each resident with a private room with basic furniture including a bed and dresser. Communal bathrooms are available on each of our three floors. Three meals a day are provided in our spacious Dining Room. Our three-story building is tastefully decorated to provide a gracious home environment.

We are a Christian non-profit community caring for the whole person: physically, mentally, spiritually and socially. We offer a supportive, family-like environment where love and compassion are a way of life...and dignity and respect are recognized in every individual. Our staff members have a high level of ownership in all aspects of our home. Each staff member, regardless of department, is responsible to develop meaningful relationships with our residents. Our social service staff works more specifically with our residents on issues relating to making and keeping appointments, handling finances, personal hygiene management and relationship issues as needed.

We also provide a variety of activities on a regular basis. These include trips to local shopping centers, leisure activities such as bowling or library trips, and other varied activities to places of interest as the opportunities arise. In the past, these have included trips to the Pennsylvania Farm Show, meals out at special restaurants, tours of local sights, day trips to the beach, movies, camping, etc. In addition, many activities are planned within our home. Each month we have a special banquet where our entire community comes together for fun and celebration. Other activities around Paxton Street Home include games, craft classes, devotional and worship times, and sports tournaments.

Please note that we are not a medical facility. In order to live in our home, an individual must be ambulatory and able to care for his or her own personal needs, clean their own room and do their own laundry. However, we do provide assistance with medication monitoring.

Financial arrangements can be made with social security benefits, or through private pay arrangements. We require full disclosure of financial means. Occupancy fees are set using a sliding fee scale based on an individual's ability to pay.
