Volunteer Requirements

Applying to volunteer with us is easy. The following steps will need to be completed: 

• Complete the Volunteer Interest Form
• Complete an in-person or phone interview
• Complete background requirements
• PA Criminal background check
• Two references
• Attend orientation with Volunteer Coordinator

*Please note, we are unable to accommodate court-ordered community service volunteer work.

Individual Volunteer Opportunities

There are so many ways to get involved in the life of our home. Lead an activity such as a craft or game, or help with gardening, picnics, or mealtimes.

Group Volunteer Opportunities

We are grateful when local churches decide to partner with Paxton Ministries to accomplish our mission, provide practical assistance, and fellowship with our residents. Groups of 12 or fewer are ideal for serving at Paxton. 

Kitchen Support

Kitchen Helper: Assist our staff with preparing, serving, and cleaning up breakfast, lunch, or dinner. 

Shifts offered weekdays from 9:30 am – 1:00 pm; 4 pm – 6 pm and on weekends from 7:30 am – 10 am, 11:00 am – 1:00 pm, and 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm.

Facilities Support

General Maintenance: Join our maintenance team for a few hours and assist with the upkeep and repairs of our building and grounds. Shifts are tailored to your availability.

Mowing & Landscaping: Join our mowing team and help us keep the grass cut during the summer. If landscaping is your preference, we accept help with the upkeep of the bushes and flower beds that beautify our home. Shifts are Wednesday-Friday and rotated among the team.

Special Projects: We always have a list of upcoming projects that could benefit from volunteer help, especially if you have carpentry or other maintenance skills. Shifts are tailored to your availability.

Resident Engagement

Lead an Activity – Share your passion with our residents. To meet the varied interests and needs of our residents, we offer a full calendar of planned activities including arts and crafts, games, music, educational presentations, parties and celebrations, exercise classes – plus much more. Shifts are typically one hour and offered weekdays 10:00 am – 11:00 am, 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm, and 6:30 pm – 7:30 pm.  Weekend shifts are from 6:30 pm – 7:30 pm.

Guest Preacher – Pastors and lay leaders are welcome to join our preaching team and deliver a message to staff and residents during a non-denomination Christian Worship service each Sunday afternoon.  Service is from 1:30 pm – 2:30 pm.

Paxton Pal – Develop a new friendship by pairing up with a resident for one year commitment and meeting in-person monthly to encourage and enjoy an activity together onsite. Shifts are flexible and scheduled at times convenient to both parties. This role requires the volunteer to attend a training session.  

Social Circle – Schedule a pre-arranged visit to Paxton Home and spend intentional time with residents chatting, playing games, or enjoying a meal together. Shifts are flexible and scheduled at times beneficial to residents.

Special Events – Extra help is always welcome when we hold special events such as holiday picnics, parties, and outings. Be on the call list and ready to help when volunteer support is needed. 

Voluntary Service

Are you looking for a meaningful way to serve others and make a difference? Whether you're taking time off from school, exploring a career shift, or enjoying retirement, Paxton Ministries offers a unique opportunity to invest your time and heart through our Voluntary Service Program.

As a Voluntary Service Member, you'll commit 6 months to a year (or more) to support adults in need. You'll have the flexibility to serve in an area that matches your interests.
